Dahon announced the selection of its Speed Pro bicycle as the
official training bike of the Saab/Salomon German National Speed
Skating team. The team will use the bike as a cross-training
tool to help build base endurance.
"We're very happy to be able to help support these world-class
athletes in their training," stated Joshua Hon, Dahon vice
president of sales and marketing. "But we will also benefit
- these skaters have legs like pistons and will definitely push
our bikes to the limits. They will provide us with valuable
feedback on performance and areas we can focus for improvement."
"Our world-class skaters have an amazingly busy schedule
- we are always on the road, racing and training in different
cities," stated Dirk Scharler, German team physiotrainer.
"The Speed Pro is the perfect, compact, all-year-round,
training and traveling tool for our skaters. Equipped with clipless
pedals and multi-position handlebars, the Speed Pro is a serious
race machine that helps me keep up with the top skaters who
reach speeds of up to 40+ km/hour (25 miles/hour). After training
rides, the Speed Pro is also perfect for getting around whichever
city we happen to be in. And of course, folding the Speed Pro
for travel to the next city takes only seconds."
In addition to using the Speed Pro for cross-training, team
members will use the bike for indoor video guided training sessions.
After intense sprint training sessions on skates, the bikes
will also be used for cool down rides and to stretch stressed
back muscles. The bike will also be the ideal tool to access
team areas at the races and to get to and from various training
rides.
