BRAKES: Dahon SpeedStop V-Brakes
Brakes are pretty important: use cheap ones and you'll end up sliding into oncoming traffic at a stop light whenever it rains. That's why we demand the most advanced brake technology for all of our bikes. We decided that we didn't want to simply slap stock MTB V-brakes onto our Premium bikes so we designed our own V brakes incorporating the latest technology and suited to the unique geometry of our bikes. The result: ultra smooth and powerful Dahon SpeedStop V-brakes. The SpeedStop front brake includes our custom Flex brake noodle. The brake noodle (the curved pipe that connects the cable to the brake) that is found on all V-brakes is typically a rigid pipe. However we found that this pipe can be easily damaged during the folding and unfolding process. Our solution: a flexible stainless steel pipe that is much more resistant to damage. Incorporated into the Flex brake noodle is a Power Modulator - basically an anti-lock brake system for your bike. It minimizes the chance of your front wheel locking up and pitching you over the handlebars. For 2004, we've added SpeedStop ceramic brake pads: not only do they function significantly better in wet or dry conditions but they are guaranteed never to squeal. We've also incorporated a new spring adjuster so that the brakes are easier to adjust. An added benefit is that the new spring adjusters are 6 grams (per arm) lighter than last year's models. We've also changed to super light mini brake bolts to save an additional few grams. Obsessive attention to detail? Why thank you very much.
